Helping to improve your quality of life

Why would I need to see a Nutritional Therapist?

More and more research is now pointing to a healthy diet and lifestyle to prevent the onset of many of the ailments and diseases which are so prevalent in our society today.

A recent German study involving over 23,000 men studying the effects of lifestyle on chronic disease reported the following:
By giving up smoking, maintaining a BMI (body mass index) of less than 30, exercising over 3.5 hours a week AND eating a healthy diet, the following was observed:

  • A 93% reduction in the risk of developing type II diabetes
  • An 81% reduction in heart attacks
  • A 50% reduction in the risk of having a stroke
  • A 36% reduction in cancer development

The benefits of nutritional therapy are not restricted to these life threatening areas.  The list below expands on the areas where positive dietary changes will help improve the quality of your life.
  • Cholesterol levels that are too high or too low
  • Allergies and/or intolerances to:
    • pollen (hey fever)/dust
    • animal dander
    • foods and/or food additives
    • chemicals including cleaning supplies
  • Blood pressure levels that are too high or low
  • Unpleasant skin conditions
    • Eczema
    • Psoriasis
    • Acne
    • Dandruff, etc
  •   Digestive disorders
    • IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
    • Crohn's disease
    • Ulcerative colitis,  etc
  • Headaches and/or migraines
  •  Colds and/or the flu
  • Unwanted weight loss/weight gain
  • Diabetes, both type I & II
  •  Reproduction
    • infertility
    • pre-conception diet
    • nutritional support during pregnancy and lactation
  •  Women's hormonal issues
    • PMS
    • PCOS
    • Irregular cycles
    • Unpleasant menopausal symptoms
  • Fatigue, from an unwanted afternoon slump to chronic fatigue
  • Nutritional support to help the body deal with the stresses of everyday life
Just in case you're thinking from now on you only get to eat lettuce and lentils from now on, don't worry.  A nutritionally sound diet contains the right proportion of protein, carbohydrate and fat.  The quality of food eaten is more important than just focusing on the quantity and you'll be amazed at how even seemingly small changes make a significant difference in the long term.

During the initial consultation we will take time to go through and examine your existing diet, I will recommend any changes that could be made and these changes can be implemented at your own pace (agreed during the consultation).

My goal is to effect lifestyle changes over a period of time that will last, it's not usually a quick fix for a month and then back to the way it was before.  As our bodies get used to
eating "real" foods they will begin to want these rather than the processed alternatives.  You may even be surprised at how easy it is to make these changes and how much you enjoy eating what may have seemed unpalatable six months ago.

I will be happy to provide recipe and snack suggestions to help get you started.
